Macro Photography “The Art of Seeing Small”

Skeeter Arnold

Skeeter is primarily a nature photographer with a heavy emphasis on macro and creative landscapes. He got his first prosumer camera back in 2006 and has since grown in his craft, winning multiple awards with his images as well as receiving Photographer of the Year in 2020.

His goal is to capture and share the details and moments in our beautiful world that are too small or happen too fast for us to see.

Such as freezing time to REALLY see and appreciate a lightning bolt or look super close at small things that we overlook on a regular basis.

“I think that people have an inherent (misplaced) phobia of insects,
but if we slow down and LOOK... we would discover the natural beauty of this world's finer works of art. The textures, patterns, colors, and structures of the insect world are, well... tiny, and sometimes impossible to see with the naked eye.

Therein lies the beauty of Macro Photography.”

Macro Photography

“The Art of Seeing Small”

From insects to flowers to products. Let’s dive into one of the most often overlooked genres of photography and explore the unseen beauty of the macro world.”

You will learn:

What “macro” is and why we should consider exploring it.

The “cheap” vs. “not so cheap” options to get you started as well as the benefits and challenges of each.

The gear and camera settings you will need to produce amazing images.

Some of my “secret” Tips & Tricks for not only finding a subject, but also capturing it in a unique way.

Then we will have some fun with a little hands-on time.

Things to bring:

Camera, tripod, your favorite lens, a speedlight if you have one and patience. Cheap set of Macro Extension Tubes for your camera (Amazon) in case I don’t already have a set for your specific camera.

Optional Items:

If the front of your favorite lens has a filter size of or between 52mm – 67mm then I HIGHLY recommend picking up the Raynox DCR 250 Super Macro “clip-on” lens and bring it!

Video Basics with David Ly

DAVID LY

I’ve been doing photography and video since 2013 and took it more seriously over the years. Since then the craft has evolved beyond what I imagined when I began. My focus has been cars, video, and the tactical industry.

I have also worked with the likes of The Food Network, CBS Sports, The Washington Post, A&E, and tactical companies such as Impact Precision and BodyArmorVent.

VIDEO BASICS CLASS

Almost every modern camera has video capabilities most photographers overlook. David will show you how to take the next step into basic video and help everyone start to understand the other half of their camera that they have not explored yet.

David and his associates have years of experience that include, TV video production and lighting. They will show the basics on gimbal operation, the how-to for video interviews, discuss the importance of lighting, audio, and touch on how to make and what is “A-Roll and B-Roll”. They will be hands on and available to discuss their experiences being in the video industry.
